“Inspired by Urban Landscapes” is the Heritage Weavers and Spinners Guild 2016 Challenge Show which will be presented in the Stairway Gallery. The show runs from October 7 – 29.

At the beginning of summer 2016, members of the HWSG were presented with a series of urban landscape photographs and then challenged to select one to use as a jumping off point to interpret in their chosen medium.

Like any visual art discipline, fibre artists utilize the same principles and elements of design in their work. Colour and value, line and form, pattern and movement all play a part on how they select each process to express their ideas. Members rose to this challenge and their responses as textile based urban statements were completed during the following summer months.

The combination of the variety of fibre art techniques chosen and the inspiration of the urban images has resulted in a unique collection of work.
