Calgary based artist Carolyn Hyde divides her time between a career in graphic design – and painting in her studio. On canvas or wood, her artistic process starts by building up rich layers of acrylic paint, inks, texture and collage, which she then manipulates to reveal what is hidden. Her work often displays an intersection between mood and graphics.
Drawn to the arts since early childhood, Carolyn’s formal art lessons began at the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon. She excelled in graphic arts as a teen and went on to study Art & Design at Medicine Hat College. She has had an extensive career as a graphic designer. Over the past decade, Carolyn renewed her passion for painting – taking courses from a wide array of local artists while experimenting and evolving her process and technique. She is inspired by the Saskatchewan and Alberta landscapes, good design, fashion, and other artists.
Carolyn’s artwork has been shown in local exhibitions, including: “Assembly” at cSpace King Edward, Calgary, AB, and “New Works / New Artists” and “East Side Studio Crawl “ at Artpoint Gallery, Calgary, AB. Carolyn is currently the Vice President of the Artpoint Gallery and Studios Society.
